What Is Roof Maxx? Everything Homeowners Need to Know About This Eco-Friendly Roof Treatment

Understanding Roof Maxx and Asphalt Shingles

Before and after comparison of an asphalt shingle roof, showing one side dirty and faded, the other side clean and restored.

What Is Roof Maxx?

Roof Maxx is a plant-based oil treatment designed to restore aging roofs, specifically those built with asphalt shingles. As old shingles naturally lose their flexibility and water resistance over time, Roof Maxx steps in to slow that process. This natural oil treatment, derived from soybean oil, replenishes the oils that shingles lose due to sun exposure, heat, and time.

It’s an eco-friendly alternative to full roof replacement, offering homeowners a fraction of the cost and none of the mess. Whether you’re a homeowner looking to sell your house, or simply a property owner hoping to extend the life of your roof, Roof Maxx gives you the opportunity to make your older roof last significantly longer.

Roof Maxx isn’t a coating or patch. It works by deeply penetrating the shingles with a food grade, plant-based oil that restores lost moisture and helps the shingles resist harsh elements like UV rays, wind, and temperature swings. Best of all, the treatment is non toxic, making it safe for your family, pets, and landscaping.

What’s the Difference Between Roof Max and Roof Maxx?

If you’ve come across the term “roof max” online or in conversation, you’re not alone. Many homeowners mistakenly refer to Roof Maxx as “roof max,” but they’re one and the same. The official product name is Roof Maxx, with two Xs, and it’s a patented, nationally recognized brand of asphalt shingle rejuvenator.

The confusion typically stems from misspellings or shorthand searches. However, it’s important to use the correct brand name when requesting service or doing research, as Roof Maxx is the only certified product of its kind backed by scientific testing and applied exclusively by trained dealers who prioritize quality workmanship and results.

So, whether you search “roof max” or “Roof Maxx,” you’re looking at the same innovative solution for extending the life of your asphalt roof.

How Roof Maxx Works on Asphalt Roofs

Asphalt shingles may look sturdy, but over time, they’re constantly battling nature. Shingles naturally lose flexibility as the oil dries out of their composition. Traditional roofing products are made with petrochemical oil, which evaporates with time, leaving the shingles dry, brittle, and prone to cracking.

The roof maxx application delivers soybean oil directly back into the shingles, mimicking their original chemical makeup. This reintroduces moisture, making the shingles flexible again and enhancing their moisture resistance and durability. The entire process takes only a few hours from inspection to treatment, but it can delay roof replacement by up to 15 years when applied in three cycles spaced five years apart.

When Roof Maxx Makes Sense for Your Asphalt Roof

Ideal Roof Conditions for Treatment

Not all roofs are created equal. Roof Maxx works best on older roofs that are in good condition structurally, but beginning to show surface wear. If your shingles are starting to dry out, curl, or lose granules, a roofer might suggest a rejuvenation treatment as an alternative to tearing off and replacing everything.

This is common on roofs aged between 6 and 15 years, especially those exposed to harsh elements like California’s hot summers and heavy rains. If you’re concerned about roof leaks, or just unsure if your roof is nearing its end, the best step is to schedule an inspection and estimate with a licensed company like Cobex Construction Group.

Sometimes, a roof may need a few minor repairs, like sealing flashing or replacing cracked old shingles, before it’s ready for treatment. These quick fixes help prepare the surface and ensure the roof maxx application performs at its best.

Roof Maxx is not a repair product, it doesn’t seal cracks or stop active leaks, but it can help prevent roof leaks from developing by restoring the natural flexibility and waterproofing of your shingles.

Roofs That Are NOT a Good Fit

If your roof has missing shingles, visible sagging, or has suffered from faulty installation, Roof Maxx is likely not the right solution. Likewise, if you’ve already had to repair multiple roof leaks or have significant water damage inside your house, replacement may be your only long-term answer.

While Roof Maxx can prolong the life of worn shingles, it won’t fix structural issues. These scenarios typically call for a more intensive roofing project, where removing the compromised layers and starting fresh is the safer move.

Roof Maxx vs. Roof Replacement: Extending Roof Life

A full roof replacement is a major investment, both in cost and disruption. For most California homes, it can run well over $15,000 and take several days to complete. Meanwhile, a single roof maxx application typically costs between $3,000 and $6,000, depending on roof size and slope.

More importantly, this natural oil treatment doesn’t involve removing shingles or creating construction mess. It’s a non-invasive spray that renews the shingle’s ability to resist harsh elements, improving the performance of your roof on a prorated basis over time.

And while new roofs typically come with a warranty, Roof Maxx also provides peace of mind by offering a five-year transferable warranty with each application.

How Long Does Roof Maxx Last? Adding Five Years of Protection

Modern two-story home with light-colored siding, black trim, and a dark asphalt shingle roof, set against a clear sky.

Lifespan per Application

Each roof maxx application extends the life of your shingles by approximately five years. Applied up to three times, Roof Maxx gives homeowners the chance to extend the life of their asphalt roof by as much as 15 years, again, for a fraction of the cost of replacement.

This makes it especially valuable for property owners trying to manage budgets while keeping their homes in top condition. Whether you’re maintaining a rental house, prepping your home for market, or simply being proactive, Roof Maxx gives you breathing room before committing to a costly overhaul.

What to Expect Over Time

After the spray is applied, it begins working immediately. You likely won’t see a dramatic difference, but you will notice improved shingle performance and less granular shedding. Treated shingles are visibly more pliable and better equipped to handle wind, rain, and sun.

Re-application is typically needed every five years, and many homeowners incorporate this into their regular roofing maintenance cycle. It’s a smart way to proactively defend against aging, without waiting for roof leaks or other serious issues to occur.

The Roof Maxx Process: What Homeowners Can Expect

Worker wearing a safety vest and helmet pressure washing a shingle roof to remove buildup, spraying in wide strokes.

Initial Roof Inspection

The entire process starts with a free inspection from a certified roofer. At Cobex, we examine the age, condition, and integrity of your asphalt shingles. We also look for signs of moisture penetration, faulty installation, or structural problems that may disqualify your roof from treatment.

If your roof is in good condition but beginning to show its age, we’ll walk you through the estimate, timeline, and benefits of Roof Maxx. In some cases, we may need to complete minor repairs before treatment to ensure the shingles are sealed and the structure is sound.

Application Day

On the day of your roof maxx application, the crew will prep the area, clear any debris, and use a specialized spraysystem to apply the soybean oil solution evenly across your roof. The treatment is safe for people, pets, and landscaping, and because it’s food grade and non toxic, it poses no environmental risks.

The project typically takes one to three hours and requires no tear-off or cleanup. It’s quiet, clean, and leaves your property looking just like it did before, but with a roof that’s ready to handle whatever nature throws at it.

Post-Treatment Results on Asphalt Shingles

Roof Maxx starts working right away, but the benefits build over time. Within weeks, shingles will have regained flexibility, reducing the risk of cracking, curling, or granular loss. You won’t see dramatic color changes, but your roof’s ability to weather storms and heat will improve significantly, enhancing long-term durability.

And the peace of mind that comes with knowing you’ve added five years to your roof’s life, backed by a transferable warranty? That’s something every homeowner deserves.

Is Roof Maxx Worth It? Real Feedback on Extending Asphalt Roofs

Customer Testimonials & User Reviews

Thousands of homeowners across the U.S. have chosen Roof Maxx, and the reviews are generally positive, especially from those looking to protect their home without breaking the bank.

“We had a 12-year-old roof that was drying out fast. The roof maxx application brought it back to life. Our roofer said it was the best choice short of a full replacement.”

“I was worried about roof leaks heading into winter. Roof Maxx gave me five more years of protection, at a fraction of the cost.”

Industry Expert Opinions

Professional roofers agree: Roof Maxx is a smart preventive solution. While it’s not a magic fix, it offers real value when used under the right conditions. Contractors often suggest it for aging roofs that are still in relatively good condition, helping homeowners avoid premature replacement.

Alternatives to Roof Maxx for Your Asphalt Roof

Traditional Roof Repairs

If you have localized issues, such as lifted flashing or a handful of worn shingles, simple repairs may be enough. However, these minor repairs are often temporary and don’t address the natural aging of the entire roof system.

Full Roof Replacement

When your roof is beyond repair, a replacement becomes necessary. While more expensive, it offers complete peace of mind and resets your home’s protection for decades. Plus, a new roof adds value to your property and often comes with a long-term warranty, which can be a strong selling point if you’re planning to sell.

Other Coatings or Sealants

Unlike commercial coatings, Roof Maxx is tailored specifically for residential asphalt shingles. Most other products are designed for flat roofs or industrial use, not for the unique composition of a house roof.

Final Thoughts: Extend Roof Life with Roof Maxx

Roof Maxx is a smart, sustainable, and cost-effective choice for extending the life of your asphalt roof. If you’re concerned about roof performance but not ready for a full project, Roof Maxx may be the ideal solution.

Dmitriy Matushevskiy

Dmitriy "Dima" Matushevskiy

Co-Founder

Those who know Dmitriy Matushevskiy well today will attest that he is not a hard person to read. His values and priorities were carved into his character since childhood. Born in the Ukraine during a period of extreme religious persecution, his grandparents and eventually his parents were lured to the United States by the desire for freedom and opportunity. Dmitriy is inspired by the memories of what his family endured. “I remember the sacrifices and difficult times my family endured in Ukraine and continue to be motivated by their courage and resourcefulness.”

After arriving in America in 2001 as a teenager, Dmitriy was drawn to the construction trade but lacked the knowledge and expertise he needed. He was hired by two contractors to help install windows and other small projects. In both cases, these people refused to pay him. But he didn’t let that disappointment sour him on construction. He knew then that it was how he wanted to spend his life. He found another contractor he trusted and offered to work for free if he would teach Dmitriy the trades. That arrangement lasted for two years and inspired a 17-year-old Dmitriy to make an offer on his first piece property in Sacramento for $25,000. He wasn’t discouraged by the fact that he didn’t have any money and spoke only broken English.

What he lacked in money and articulation, he made up for with the kind of determination and resourcefulness he had learned from his family. Dmitriy recalls, “I was young and naïve with little appreciation for the very long odds I faced. I found the property owner in Florida and convinced him to do a below-market deal. He agreed and then I was faced with the reality that I had no money to buy this property. I made up my mind that I was going to find the money no matter what and somehow, I did.” He built a duplex and sold it for a nice profit. Dmitriy was thankful for those who helped him get his start and was humbled by the good fortune that he fully attributes to divine intervention. He was so grateful, that he donated his six-figure profit to his church. “Too many unlikely events went my way that allowed that experience to bless my life. I felt compelled by my faith and the years of blessings my family enjoyed through our church community. It was the right decision.”

The crash of the real estate market in 2008 took its toll on the construction industry and Dmitriy was no exception. He was so devastated by the setback, he struggled for many months to find his next career move. He tried a few uninspiring things outside of construction and in 2010 divine intervention struck again. Dmitriy found an opportunity to do property preservation and realized this was his chance to get back into the construction game. He has been talking to his friend Sergey at church and found out that he also had an industry background. They agreed to become partners in a property preservation company which became successful and broadened the construction expertise of both men.

As the economy improved, Dmitriy dove head-first into flipping houses in Florida and new construction in California. In 2017, Dmitriy and Sergey began discussing a shared vision of creating a different kind of company that would help homeowners make improvements without the stress, dishonesty, and broken promises experienced by many. Along with another Church friend Vazgen (Vaz), Cobex was born. Dmitriy remembers, “From the first conversation, it was clear that the three of us shared the same values, vision, and goals for our new company. We committed to each other then and there to stay true to those principles.”

Dmitriy recognizes that his determination, high standards, and attention to detail lead him to be single-minded about work, even during traditional off hours. But he vows to work on that. “My wife Angelica and I have two young sons and a baby daughter. They are a loving reminder that there is more to life than work. I don’t have a lot of hobbies or outside interests but spending time with them makes me realize what is really important.”

Dmitriy reflects on his accomplishments. “My partners and I feel fortunate that we have a company focused on family. It is very rewarding to create jobs and career advancement opportunities for our family members and devoted team members. Cobex is a place where people can enjoy their work, feel
appreciated, and embrace professional development. When a customer gives us a positive review, we all share in the moment. As owners, we are mindful of how blessed we are and devoted to sharing those blessings with others.”

What is your favorite thing about your job?

What I enjoy most about my work is the meaningful work we do and the value of the relationships with my employees and our customers.

How do you integrate the concept of “family” into your job at Cobex?

The concept of family is to love and respect each other. To treat each other with consideration and to put others ahead of ourselves. A strong family consists of trust and respect for each other. At Cobex we treat each other as family and we treat our customers as our extended family.
